Week 8 Getting Visual Part 2

Okay, I knew that there was a great deal of Papercraft on Youtube as I have browsed there many times looking for projects and information.  However, another business like mine?  That was a little harder, but not too hard.  I found Papercraft and looked for common links or business like names.

I found two fairly quickly, Papercraft museum:

And Papercraft inspirations:  https://www.youtube.com/user/PapercraftTV

The museum is pretty straight forward, but not very active.  I mean, it looks like something like my page might look like, at least at first, that is why I listed it here.

The Inspirations site is more home-style Papercraft I call it; photos, scrap booking, wall art and the like.  Not my line of Papercraft but the site looks well established.  Oh, you are going to love this…  I just looked up the basic statistics for each and the museum is more established, having 1,261 subscribers 872,018 views and joined Jul 30, 2008 whereas Inspirations has 785 subscribers,  11,429 views and joined Nov 8, 2012.

A good lesson on what appearance can do!

Okay, does visual work?

Stepping beyond what I just discovered above,  I discussed in my last blog that Papercraft is a completely visual art so video and photo are the prime methods of sharing.  I suppose you could have Papercraft radio, but I don’t think it is going to gain a lot of popularity – ever.

I was actually surprised by these two sites and many more.  I found myself lost is a world of links to more and more Papercraft!  I was getting out of control…

I am looking forward to opening either a YouTube account or tumblr and sharing my works.  Then again, when I see what some others are doing, have to share that I was blown away…  There are some real detailed works out there!

Spoiler…  I have always wanted to work for the miniature industry that supplies the movie industry…  WOW, how cool would that be!  Something else that hit me is that I may not make money out of selling my work, but, I could by links.  I hear that many people make some fair side cash by being a part of the linking world.  It is an option that just occurred to me…

So, which visual site am I going to use?  Tumblr.  After all, the opening pages says ‘follow the world’s creators’… :)

As a last note, I have tried to link my tumblr account to FB without success.  When I click the link to do so a window flies off to the right of my screen and I cannot access it… Using Firefox fyi…  I will look into this later but for now, I have twitter doves flying around my head!

Week 8 - Getting Visual

The Dow of Social Visuals…

  • YouTube – 490 Million Users - Use YouTube to host the videos you embed on your site. Create a YouTube channel to extend your reach into the YouTube Community
  • Google+ – 170 Million Users - Similar to FaceBook in many ways, Google+ also includes the option to host “Hangouts” to connect with customers and clients. Make your G+ page a hub for activity for your business
  • LinkedIn – 161 Million - Connect with other professionals
  • Instagram – 80 Million (150 million per the site link provided) - Phone Ap: share your business with photographs, give a glimpse behind the scenes

Okay, after looking over these sites a great deal…

Youtube:  usable.  I could make videos of my models and when I get my workstation set up again, videos of the building process.  I have many photos of the process, that I have up on my FB Papercraft page and placing more as I have time…  But video is indeed captivating…

Google +:  usable.  I like the idea of hangouts…  I must admit that all the SM that is out there is becoming overwhelming…  How do I track it all…  I am willing to bet there is something out there that will link them all together…  I will look into that…  Speaking of which…

LinkedIn:  Not usable.  This is not a professional ‘business’  I am starting out as a support/resource for Papercraft which is without doubt, a hobby J

Instagram:  usable.  My hobby is choice for the visual media.  It’s all about looks!  The devil is in the details and more details the more a Papercraft enthusiast will want to see.  However, I have to be honest here…

This is a dream business.  I am not even sure anyone will buy them yet and I have not concluded it is legal to sell the models I make, as I did not design them.  My sister, a lawyer, is looking into it but she is very busy.  However, I was recently directed to a/the-small business support center that Mira Costa hosts…  I will be looking that up right quick!

Week 7 ~ Twitter

Assignment:
Write a blog post describing:
-Which search words you used to find your connections? Did you have to play around with more than one key term to start seeing the right results? Who did you end up finding?
-What lists did you create and why? How does creating a list on Twitter help you stay organized or reach a goal?

This was easy.  I used “Papercraft” and the page lit up!  There is a hashtag #papercraft so it was not hard to find both people and organizations, meaning clubs, groups, blogs etc that are into Papercraft.

One person I found that thrilled me is a person who’s user name is Uhu02.  He is a master designer and builder of incredible Papercraft projects.  The background to my Twitter page, although it blew it out of proportion, is the Valley Forge from the movie Silent Running, one of my all time favorite movies and one of my favorite if not the favorite build I have done.

I crated two lists as requested, a people list and a bus/club/org list.  This just made sense for now as I am not sure what I am doing there.  I have been looking on various twitter explained sites but still am at a loss to exactly what is occurring, well, I get that a bit, but more, how do I say hi to someone?  How do I syntax the message to get it where I want?

And, for me, the ticker tape format is hard to follow…

But, I’ll get it…

Oh, organization...  Not sure yet as I don't exactly understand the system.  But, I am guessing that I can learn to send tweets to specific groups, monitor specific groups defined by my lists?

Gee I hope I am right!  :)

Week 6 ~ Scheduled Posts

Okay, here is my scheduled posts'z.  I chose these three...  First ~ just a something to get something up there, and, oh, yeah, because Zealot is, in my opinion, one of if not the best papermodeling site out there...  There will be a reason later to come :)

The second and third posts are to present some Youtube video's for people to enjoy...  One on what to have/get, and one showing some awesome examples of what can be done, and, btw, when I saw it, "I" was impressed!!!  Some of the scenes look like sets for a movie!  Wow!

I chose to put one up Sunday because Sunday is the last day of the weekend and I am thinking people will be spending the last of their relaxing weekend on the computer checking thing out before the return to work...

The next is on Wednesday, as a middle of the week action to let people know I am still there and then on Friday night at 6 because I hoping/thinking they will hit FB before the evening activities... :)
